Gmail’s new iPad Look. Why not on the desktop??

Google has just released an updated version of Gmail for the iPad. They have added in what they call the ‘Stacked Card Interface’. I am thinking the name comes from how the threaded messages look like cards stacked on top of each other. A very simple yet functional design idea.
The technology behind this new interface is CSS3 Transitions, CSS3 Transforms and WebKit. A detailed explaination of it can be found on Google’s Blog.
The thing is, why have Google not implemented this on their normal Gmail interface. The current Gmail interface as seen above is starting to feel very dated compared to the iPad and even the iPhone versions. Yes the iPhone version is made for a smaller screen so maybe that may not work in a desktop/laptop environment. But the iPad version however would look brilliant on a standard Web Browser.
I do hope that Google are working on a ‘New Look’ for the standard browser and perhaps incorporate some of the features exclusive to the iPad.
