Protect your Mac with a hidden app

The biggest worry for any laptop owner is that it might get stolen. It’s very hard to trace a stolen portable computer, particularly as thieves tend not to keep them for long. So wouldn’t be great if there was a way of tracking where your laptop was in the event of it being stolen?

HiddenApp does what it says on the tin, and more! Once installed it hides itself deep in your computer where no one can find it. If your laptop is stolen, you activate it using the website.

Once it’s activated, you can track your computer’s location: and even take photos of anyone using it via the Mac’s inbuilt web cam.

This is not the only app on the market to claim to track stolen Macs – but it is the cheapest. At £15 per computer, that’s a worthwhile investment.

Among similar devices, Prey Project costs £140 per year and Orbicule Undercover costs £35 – maybe you’re paying for the fancy name.

The website explains exactly what to do in case your laptop is stolen; so even computer illiterate people can quickly get evidence against the crooks.

This app is perfect for anyone with a Mac as it’s cheap. Not only is it useful if your laptop is stolen, it can help you retrieve it if it’s lost.. I can see an iPhone version in the pipeline. Being expensive, they’re popular with thieves.

Having an app hidden on the phone keeping track of its location would ensure you could accurately pinpoint its location using the GPS software already installed.

It would also work well on the iPad. And seeing as Christmas is round the corner and thousands of iPads are likely to be sold in the coming months, there’s a massive market opening for an app that keeps the device safe.

I love the concept: and the fact that you get all of the latest features for free when they become available makes the £15 price tag look even more of a bargain.
