Google Targets Counterfeit Ads

Life is easier thanks to The Internet. There are very few things today that you can’t do via The Internet. From business to education, The Internet gives us the opportunity to benefit from the new medium. Selling products, creating relationships, money transactions and grocery shopping are just few examples of the things users do on The Internet.

Unfortunately there are also some malevolent people who misuse online platforms in order to further their illegal activities. Marketing and Advertising counterfeit goods are just some of these activities. Countries and organisations are taking actions in order to fight these illegal activities in the online world.

Google is one of the organisations that are fighting against these activities by updating their Advertising system regularly to prevent the displaying of ads of counterfeit products. Last year the company shut down over 50000 AdWords accounts for attempting to advertise counterfeit goods.

To be more effective in prevention of counterfeit advertising, Google has announced three major improvements.

- Solving AdWords counterfeits complaints within 24 hours

- Improving AdSense anti-counterfeit reviews.

- Launching a new help centre page for reporting counterfeits.

Last year, Google invested 60 million Dollars in updating their algorithm and system for monitoring Adwords accounts. Kent Walker from Google said that ‘fighting with counterfeiters will be successful only when companies get help from their users and their customers. As you can imagine internet is a huge platform where you can’t stop all the illegal activities. However, it is possible to weaken their power and their reach to internet users by preventing them from advertising their false goods.’

We as internet users also have the responsibility to fight against the illegal activities of counterfeiters. The best thing to do is to get in touch with the targeted brands and report counterfeit ads to Google and other search engines.
